It seems like this last month I've been swept away from my blog by real life ! Don't you hate when your real life gets in the way of your virtual one ?
Both kids started school this month and we are still struggling to find a routine that works for us. One of the big struggles has been getting a bedtime routine for Ella. She is anti-sleep ! Since she was a baby she has always fought going to sleep ! We remember her taking a couple of hours just to settle down and go to sleep when she was a baby. She is EXHAUSTED by the time 8 o'clock rolls around ( I don't give her a nap after kindergarten) and I'm wondering if she is just overtired. I'm scared to let her nap after school in case she has more of a problem going to sleep at night. I've tried laying down with her, not laying down with her, reading to her, rubbing her back, being firm, yada yada yada ! And forget giving this girl a warm relaxing bath before bed ! There is nothing relaxing about how excitable she is after an evening bath. She would remind anyone a puppy just fresh out of their bath. She is just short of ricocheting off the walls. I really hope she isn't destined for my insomniac ways - it sucks !!
Austin on the other hand is the opposite. He usually is asleep within 2 minutes and is up within the first 5 seconds his alarm goes off at 5:30 ! He even gets up before 7am on the weekends !! Aren't tween boys meant to SLEEP ?! We've had multiple conversations to NOT bother me until you here *my* alarm.
Ella loves Kindergarten and can't wait to go every single morning. She isn't a morning person but once she is up and ready she asks every 5 minutes if it's time to go to Kindergarten. Is it too much to ask for this school excitement to last through high school ? Her teacher seems wonderful. She moved up in dance and now goes during the evening instead of a morning class - just one more thing for me to work around schedule wise. I swear someone needs to invent a real mom's taxi service - like a daycare on wheels.
Austin seems to be doing well this year. It's hard to tell with him. He doesn't really like to talk about his actual classes or assignments much but the report cards are always great. He's running a full schedule of all advanced classes again this year ( he takes after his dad!). He REALLY likes his math teacher. He says his new favorite subject is math. He has always disliked math, but says his new teacher makes it fun for him and explains it really well. How exciting ! I've always struggled with math. If it can't be done on a calculator than I can't do it. I LOATHED every second of every math class I ever had to do.
Dan is keeping himself busy. He is due to come home towards the end of the year. We can hardly wait !!
I'm hanging in there. I've been pretty stressed out with other life events this past month. Struggling with insomnia badly but I know it's just due to stress. I tend to really internalize the tiniest things and the first thing it affects is my sleep. I'm hoping Sept will be a better month for everyone. We've got a couple of monumental events (nothing I'm prepared to announce just yet!) coming in September ! I'm excited about them all except for my baby turning 5 already !!
Promise I won't be on hiatus as long this time !
